To celebrate Chinese New Year, 45 WINGS women joined our first Make-and-Donate Angpow Lantern event to make lanterns for seniors at Lions Home For The Elders. Over 5 workshops held from 10 Jan to 14 Jan 2022, 70 angpow lanterns were made.

On 17 Jan 2022, the lanterns were delivered to Lions Home For The Elders in Bishan and nurses at the home put up the lanterns to decorate the wards. “We really appreciate the effort and creativity from the WINGS volunteers, crafting these beautiful lanterns which elevated the CNY atmosphere in our wards!”, said Ms Velda Lim, Volunteer Programme Executive, Lions Home For The Elders.

The women who made the lanterns enjoyed getting to know each other and the fellowship shared. Above all, they were glad they had the opportunity to share the warmth of the Chinese New Year festive season with the elders and staff at Lions Home. See photos from the workshop and hear from the participants below.

A big thank you to our Volunteer-Trainer Felice Yeo for leading the ladies in making the lanterns, and all participants for joining the event to make a difference to the seniors at Lions Home For The Elders this Chinese New Year.

Day One (10 Jan 2022)

After the first day of Make-and-Donate Angpow Lantern, we already have 18 lanterns to give to the Lions Home for the Elders to share the warmth of the festive season with seniors. Thank you to all participants and volunteers who took time to come down and make the lanterns.

Day Two (11 Jan 2022)

On the second day of the event, eight ladies came for the workshop. Some had joined the first workshop and came for a second time. Their enthusiasm inspired the Trainer, Felice Yeo to teach the group to make a more complicated and gorgeous three-layer Pagoda lantern instead of the simpler design planned!

Day Three (12 Jan 2022)

WINGS Make-and-Donate Angpow Lantern 2022 has turned out to be a good opportunity for more women to discover WINGS. On Day 3 of the event, eight of the ten women who had signed up were attending their first workshop at WINGS – and they enjoyed the meaningful experience!

Day Four (13 Jan 2022)

Day 4 of WINGS Make-and-Donate Angpow Lantern 2022 event – and the lantern design was the most complicated so far! Thirty angpow packets were needed to make one Fortune Ball Lantern, which meant a lot of folding, stapling and a workshop which overran. But the ladies were having so much fun, no one minded at all.

Day Five (14 Jan 2022)

In our fifth (and final) Make-and-Donate Angpow Lantern 2022 workshop, WINGS’ women rose to the ultimate challenge and made a two-tier lantern! A total of 48 angpow packets were involved in making each lantern.

Lanterns delivered to Lions Home For The Elders (Bishan)

After 5 workshops and 245 volunteer hours, 70 lanterns were completed. And on 17 Jan 2022, they were delivered to Lions Home For The Elders in Bishan.

“We really appreciate the effort and creativity from the WINGS volunteers, crafting these beautiful lanterns which elevated the CNY atmosphere in our wards,” said Ms Velda Lim, Volunteer Programme Executive, Lions Home For The Elders.
