Caregivers deserve care too
Her story. Her voice
Every day in Singapore, many women quietly care for ageing parents, spouses, and loved ones.
Behind the routines of caregiving are moments rarely seen — the emotional exhaustion, the uncertainty, the constant balancing between caring for others and holding themselves together.
In Singapore, informal caregivers provide an average of 33 hours of care each week, and the value of this unpaid caregiving for seniors is estimated at S$1.28 billion annually. Yet many caregivers continue with little support, and studies have found that over 40% of caregivers may be at risk of depression.
For Doreen, caregiving is a journey she never expected to navigate alone. In her 60s, she cares for her elderly mother who lives with dementia and chronic illnesses. Each day brings uncertainty — changing moods, health worries, emotional strain, and the quiet loneliness of having no real outlet.
There are moments when she feels overwhelmed. Moments when she longs for someone to talk to. Moments when caregiving feels isolating and all-consuming.
Yet through it all, she continues out of love.
“Caregiving is filled with uncertainty, yet it is also a journey of love,” she shares.
Doreen’s story reflects the reality faced by many women caregivers in Singapore today. As caregiving responsibilities intensify, many quietly carry the emotional and mental weight alone — often with limited support, respite, or a safe space to share their struggles.
At WINGS, we believe caregivers deserve care too.
Through Her Story, Her Voice, WINGS walks alongside women caregivers like Doreen through the most demanding stages of caregiving — when burnout creeps in, balance feels hard to find, and support matters most. With that, WINGS is partnering SG Assist to develop relevant programmes to provide women caregivers with psychosocial support, caregiver conversations, safe spaces for connection, and pathways to rediscover wellbeing, confidence, and purpose beyond caregiving. These help women caregivers feel supported, connected, and empowered to better care for their loved ones.
Your support can remind a caregiver that she does not have to walk this journey alone. Because while caregivers spend their lives caring for others, they deserve care too.
Donate today. Join us today as we journey with our women caregivers by empowering them to continue caring with strength, purpose and love.
