Becoming a caregiver for a loved one is a profound life shift, and in Singapore, this responsibility too often rests on the shoulders of our mothers, daughters, and wives. The stark reality, revealed by studies like the “Caregiving Transitions among Family Caregivers of Elderly Singaporeans”, shows that 3 out of 4 caregivers are women. Imagine the weight they carry – not only for their loved ones but also the hidden battles many faces, with a third experiencing clinically significant depressive symptoms while bravely tending to others. The 2022 Ministry of Manpower report further highlights this, noting over 80,000 female residents outside the workforce due to caregiving.
Meet Mdm W, 78 years old and one of over 200 women caregivers within our WINGS community. She has been taking of her elderly mother since 2010, who requires significant support. Before finding WINGS, the strain on caregiving was heavy. Now, she has discovered a lifeline – a community where she finds balance, pursues her own joys, and connects with others who understand her journey. Mdm W knows she is not alone.
At WINGS, we believe in empowering every woman to navigate this transitional journey with dignity and strength. We aim to provide vital resources, from access to assisted living devices, caregiver knowledge, and support, fostering connection and resilience so they can prioritise their well-being while caring for their loved ones.
As our community of caregivers will grow in tandem with the fast-ageing population in Singapore. We envision WINGS women SOARING with confidence and feeling STRONGER together, supporting them at every stage of their caregiving journey – from anticipating the role, navigating its daily complexities, and with the foresight that many of these selfless caregivers will one day rely on the same compassion they are now providing.
Our impact is measured in the confidence of a woman who feels prepared, the connection of a caregiver who no longer feels alone, and the well-being of a family supported by a thriving matriarch. By supporting women today, we build a resilient foundation of care for their future, ensuring no one faces this path alone.
Your generosity would enable us to help our women navigate through their transitions and empowering us to directly address the unique needs of women caregivers in Singapore today and in future.
Be the beacon of hope and support that empowers these women to SOAR, knowing that their strength today builds a more caring future for us all.
